Spirit pleases Trotters chief

Bolton boss Owen Coyle felt his team's performance in the 3-2 victory at Wolves typified the spirit they have shown in recent weeks.

The win - which moved the Trotters up a place to 16th in the Premier League - a point clear of the relegation zone - was their third on the bounce against fellow strugglers following their triumphs against QPR and Blackburn.

Reflecting on the display, a delighted Coyle said: "We had to stand up and be brave and resolute in our defending, in the first half in particular. Wolves came out with all guns blazing as we expected. For our part, we did allow too many crosses into the box, but when they came in we had to get blocks in and Adam Bogdan made a couple of great saves.

"Then (Michael) Kightly scored a great goal and at that point - given the events of the last few weeks, the amount of games we have had to play and the emotion - it would have been easy to feel sorry for ourselves.

"But what we did was show the true spirit we have at the football club. As managers we often talk about team spirit and a sense of camaraderie and that is easy when you are winning games week in and week out.

"We have not won enough games this season, which is why we are where we are in the league, but that (performance) was testament to how tight a group they are."
