The on-loan Chelsea frontman bagged a last-gasp winner against Mick McCarthy's men, with a close-range finish after Ronald Zubar's shocking backpass, handing Bolton their first win of the year.
The Wanderers fans have already been won over by their new addition and Sturridge believes he can make their smiles even bigger by the end of the season.
Sturridge told the Bolton Evening News: "I was surprised that the defender passed the ball back but as a striker you've got to be ready for those kind of things," he said. "I'm here to score goals because that's my job at the end of the day.
"It was great to score on my debut but the most important thing was that the team won. The manager had said to me before the game 'be ready to come on and light the place up' so it feels great to say that I did it."
