Arter takes credit for deft dummy

Harry Arter says his dummy to set up James McClean for the Republic of Ireland's winner against Wales was no fluke.

The Bournemouth midfielder lasted the full 90 minutes of the World Cup qualifier in Cardiff, playing a key role in the move that led to the goal which sends the Irish into November's play-offs at the expense of the Welsh.

Burnley midfielder Jeff Hendrick crossed from the right on 57 minutes in the direction of Arter, but he showed poise and awareness to leave the ball for an unmarked McClean to finish off the chance.

"A few of the lads think it was lucky but I knew what I was doing," said the Bournemouth midfielder.

Martin O'Neill's men now advance to a two-legged play-off in November against one of seven other European nations, with the draw to decide the clashes taking place in a week's time.
