The former Le Harve man has found regular football difficult to come by with the Cherries but he took his chance in the draw with Wigan in the FA Cup when he found the back of the net in the draw.
Howe wants the France under-21 star to push on and he feels he will only get better with more games he plays, but warned against too much "experimentation".
Howe told the Daily Echo: "Lys is a talented kid and is only going to get better. He is a brave player and is not afraid to try things, experiment and use his talents. Hopefully, from this point he will improve.
“He has a touch of the maverick about him. He is capable of delivering the unexpected and that is one of his strengths.
"He just needs to make sure it is on the right side of experimentation because you don’t want a situation where you are unsure what a player is going to do in a negative way.
“He has got to make sure it is positive and I thought in the main against Wigan, he was."
