Cherries veteran eyes first win

Jermain Defoe has described struggling Bournemouth's Premier League clash against Brighton on Friday night as "massive".

The 34-year-old England international striker joined the Cherries on a free transfer from relegated Sunderland during the summer window.

And after being frustrated at the poor start to the season, in which the side have lost their opening four matches, Defoe is looking for a win to kickstart the campaign for Eddie Howe's men.

The former Tottenham and Portsmouth man feels Bournemouth are in a lot better shape than his former club were as they dropped into the Championship with a whimper.

But Defoe recognises that Brighton's visit to Dean Court is a vital game in terms of getting some Premier League points on the board.

He said: "The next game is massive for us. Hopefully, we will bounce back and kick-start our season."
