Mings had made three appearances this season before being struck down with a back injury against Arsenal back in September which forced him off at half-time of that game.
He is now back on the comeback trail and has hopes of returning early in the new year, although he admits a lot will depend on how the injury reacts when he starts training properly.
He told the Echo: "I'm looking to get back in the next month or two.
"I'm into the rehab phase now and, hopefully, I will start running in the next few days.
"As long as there is no reaction and it doesn't flare up again, we should be fine to move on to the next stage.
"It's difficult to know timescales because it really depends on how I react to the next thing."
