Murray excited by returning Brighton ace

Glenn Murray says old strike partner Sam Baldock will return from injury a better player and is looking forward to his comeback.

Baldock made his first appearance of the season in the FA Cup third-round win over Crystal Palace, coming on as a substitute as he finally ended eight months out of action with a calf injury.

The 28-year-old could face a tough battle to secure a regular spot in Chris Hughton's team given the manager's plans to bring in a new striker during the January transfer window with Celtic's Moussa Dembele and Aston Villa youngster Keinan Davies said to be targets.

However, Murray has backed Baldock to work his way back into Hughton's first-team plans and is hopeful of reforming their strike partnership before the end of the season.

Murray told The Argus: “Me and Sam linked up really well last year. We shared a good partnership.

“It was fruitful and he has had a tough time this year through injury and not being selected. It is difficult because you have these times in your career.

“He is going through a difficult period but he will come out the other side stronger.

“I know it is probably difficult to take for him now but, when he looks back on this little episode, he will be stronger for it.”
