Winger Kazenga LuaLua became the latest addition to a packed treatment room after sustaining a hamstring problem during the 1-1 home draw with Wrexham in the FA Cup.
Poyet said: "We've had five players pick up hamstring injuries and it is because the pitch is too hard.
"When we train, the pitch is really wet and we're paying the price.
"Last season we didn't have these kind of hamstring injuries so it is something that has come about.
"It is a problem but I don't want to blame the pitch as it is in a super new stadium."
