Bayern confirm Lewandowski deal

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have confirmed striker Robert Lewandowski has signed a new four-year deal with the club.

The Poland international has been with the Bavarians since 2014, scoring 197 goals in that time.

Lewandowski signed from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer and he is close to breaking Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s tally of 217 goals for Bayern.

Chairman Rummenigge has described him as “the world’s best centre-forward” and Lewandowski says he is delighted to stay put after signing a deal until 2023.

“Bayern has become my sporting home,” Lewandowski said. “Besides, my family and I are happily settled in Munich.

“I’m convinced we’ll achieve a lot in the next few years. FC Bayern are one of the three biggest clubs in the world, and we have an outstanding team.”

The 31-year-old has won five Bundesliga titles so far, as well as two DFP-Pokal Cups. He has made a fine start to the new Bundesliga season, scoring five goals in the first two matches.

The Pole netted a hat-trick against Schalke last week and he will be hoping to improve his tally in this week’s battle with Mainz.
