Injured Goretzka makes early Bayern return

Bayern Munich

Leon Goretzka has returned to Bayern Munich for treatment after suffering an injury setback while on international duty with Germany.

The 24-year-old midfielder has yet to feature in the Bundesliga for Bayern this season after suffering a badly bruised leg in training in mid-August.

However, having made progress in his recovery, Goretzka linked up with Joachim Low’s squad ahead of their Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Netherlands and Northern Ireland.

But it has now been confirmed that the former Bochum and Schalke man has picked up an injury to the same area.

Low confirmed: “He has a mild hemorrhage at a place where he has had problems for a while already. He can’t play [against the Dutch on Friday].

“I think that he’ll head home and probably get an MRI scan there. He definitely won’t be able to train for two or three days.”

Bayern coach Niko Kovac will be hopeful that Goretzka will be fit for their return to Bundesliga action at RB Leipzig on September 14.
