Sule upbeat on recovery

Niklas Sule looks set to miss the rest of Bayern Munich's season and possibly Germany's Euro 2020 campaign after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear.

Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule says he feels positive about his rehabilitation as he looks to recover from his anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The Germany international suffered the serious knee injury back in October against Augburg and the Bavarian giants have missed his presence at the back, as they currently sit down in fourth place in the Bundesliga table.

Sule, who has developed into one of the top young centre-backs in Europe, has been ruled out already for the remainder of the Bundesliga campaign but the former Hoffenheim starlet has been keen to focus on the positives.

Speaking to supporters at a fan event, Sule claims he is currently ahead of schedule in terms of his rehabilitation and still has aspirations he can prove his worth ahead of the Euro 2020 with Germany next summer.

The 25-year-old defender said: “The knee is alright. I’m a bit ahead of the healing process. That was not foreseeable and speaks for the good work of the surgeon.”

He added: “I’ll be glad to see you (the supporters) soon again. I have not yet written off the European Championship.”

Meanwhile, Bayern will continue without Sule on Saturday for a massive game in the Bundesliga when they travel to frontrunners Borussia Monchengladbach.

Bayern will be determined to bounce back after they suffered a shock home defeat at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen last time out.

Following their trip to Gladbach, Bayern then welcome Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham to Allianz Arena in their final Champions League group game.
