Alaba throws backing behind Flick

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba is closing on a return to action.

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba says he and the rest of the squad would be happy if Hansi Flick was given the head coach role for the rest of the season.

The Bavarian giants have managed to overcome a slight blip in the Bundesliga by beating Tottenham in Champions League and securing a 6-1 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday.

There has been plenty of speculation as to who will replace Nico Kovac on a permanent basis, with interim boss Flick thought to be one of the contenders.

Flick has been told he will be given the role until at least Christmas but it’s not yet certain if he has done enough to land the job full time, with the likes Massimiliano Allegri and Mauricio Pochettino being linked with the role at the Allianz Arena.

Alaba says he is enjoying playing under Flick and the Austrian international claims he is not alone in the Bayern squad.

“We all feel really good. You can recognise his philosophies very well in our game,” Alaba said.

Meanwhile, Sporting director Hasan Salihamdzic has claimed that the first team squad will not have the last say on who will be the next manager at Bayern.

“Naturally we will look closely at how we work, at how the coach works, and how the players react,” Salihamdzi said.

“But of course we are going to decide that. Sure, the players wish that, but in the end, we don’t have the last word.”
