Vidal in fitness race to face Real

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich's Arturo Vidal will miss this week's DFB-Pokal semi-final and possibly the Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

The Chile international midfielder picked up a knee injury when he slipped during training on Sunday and needs to undergo keyhole surgery to correct the problem.

The Bavarians are due to meet Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-finals of the German Cup on Tuesday night and the 30-year-old schemer has no chance of making that fixture.

They then meet Hannover in the Bundesliga on Saturday before taking on Los Blancos in the first leg of their mouth-watering semi-final of Europe’s elite club competition at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, April 25.

That match is a more realistic target after coach Jupp Heynckes said: ‘Arturo will definitely be out for a short while.’

Vidal made 22 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring six goals, while he also made eight Champions League appearances.
