Dortmund players revel in big win
Axel Witsel and Thomas Delaney were both delighted to see Borussia Dortmund return to winning ways in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Dortmund were surprisingly beaten 3-1 by Union Berlin before the international break but bounced back in style against Bayer Leverkusen, claiming a 4-0 win thanks to a brace from Marco Reus and further strikes from Paco Alcacer and Raphael Guerreiro.
Belgium international Witsel returned to the line-up after missing the defeat in Berlin with a thigh injury and was delighted to help BVB bounce back, particularly ahead of their Champions League clash with Barcelona on Tuesday.
“I trained hard to return,” Witsel told the reporters. “Physically it was not easy but I am glad that I could help the team win. Now we play against Barcelona, one of the best teams in the world.”
Witsel’s fellow midfielder Delaney has also quickly shifted his focus to Dortmund’s opening game in Europe this season.
“It was important to hold a clean sheet again! It was a really good performance,” the Denmark international added. “And now against Barcelona? Two great teams face off.”
