Dortmund among clubs chasing Reds star
Borussia Dortmund are among the clubs reported to be weighing up a move for Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic at the end of the season.
The veteran is likely to become one of the most in-demand players in world football next summer as he will be out of contract and a host of clubs will scrap for his signature.
At the age of just 31, Matic still has a number of years ahead of him at the highest level and would be an excellent signing for most.
Dortmund are said to have thrown their hat into the ring already although they will face strong competition from Italian trio Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus, who all love a good free transfer.
Matic has yet to be offered a new deal with United and there is a good chance that will remain the case as he struggles for regular action with the Reds.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is preferring to go with youth these days, with Scott McTominay taking Matic’s place in the side.
At this stage of his career, Matic needs to be playing regular first-team football, something he is not getting at United.
He has made just one start for United – in the 1-0 win over Leicester City – and if things do not improve, he could push for a move in the mid-season transfer window.
Matic will be free to talk to European clubs in January and it looks as though he will not be short of options.
