Gladbach youngster pens new deal
Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl was delighted with the news Laszlo Benes has extended his contract with the club.
Midfielder Benes, 22, was under contact with Die Fohlen until 2021 but has now tagged a further three years on that deal to remain with the Bundesliga pacesetters until the summer of 2024.
Capped three times by Slovakia, Benes has enhanced his reputation this term, making 15 appearances in all competitions while he has started 10 of those.
The youngster has been on the Gladbach books since July 2016 but spent the second half of last season on loan with Bundesliga 2 club Holstein Kiel.

He scored a couple of goals from 15 league outings before returning to Borussia-Park where things have gone from strength to strength.
Having watched Benes ink his new deal on Thursday, Eberl admitted his joy that another up-and-coming star will be with the club for some time.
“He’s managed to become a fixed part of the team since returning from his loan spell at Holstein Kiel,” he said. “He’s part of the younger group of players within our squad and we’re pleased that he will be staying at Borussia a while longer.”
It has been a remarkable start to the campaign for Gladbach and nobody expected Marco Rose’s charges to be at the German top-flight summit – four points clear of the mighty Bayern Munich.
Only time will tell if they can maintain that form until next May but, with Benes signing up, it is good times for a club looking for their first Bundesliga title since 1976-77.
