Mbemba emerges as summer target for Hoffenheim

Hoffenheim are lining up a potential summer move for Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba, reports claim.

DR Congo international Mbemba has fallen out of favour at St James’ Park over the past two seasons and his future in the north east looks like it will be coming to an end this summer.

The 23-year-old defender made just nine Premier League appearances this term and manager Rafael Benitez, whose future beyond the 2018/19 campaign is yet to be resolved, is keen to move him on.

Several clubs are reportedly showing an interest in the defender with former employers Anderlecht, who sold the Zaire-born star to the Magpies in 2015, keen on wrapping up a deal.

However, Hoffenheim, who finished third in the Bundesliga this season, are now said to have joined the race and the lure of Champions League football could tempt Mbemba into a move.

It is thought Newcastle would want a fee around £10million.
