Hecking took over just before Christmas and has overseen an improvement in results with Borussia winning five, losing three and drawing once in the Bundesliga, while they have also progressed in the DFB Pokal.
Sunday's 1-0 defeat at home to leaders and champions elect Bayern Munich came on the back of a disappointing loss at Hamburg but Hecking says things have gone well since he's been in charge.
He said on the club's website: "It's been intense. We've played 15 games (in all competitions) and won more than we've lost which is positive. We’ve lost three games in the league - anyone can lose to Bayern, we deserved to lose to Leipzig and perhaps given how we played in the second half in Hamburg we also deserved to lose that game.
"However, in our other matches we’ve played well and we’re still in the DFB Pokal having put in some very convincing performances. I’m very happy because when I took over at Borussia many people said that it would be difficult for me. Fortunately we have a five point gap between us and 16th place."
