Eggestein blow for Bremen
Werder Bremen will be without Maximilian Eggestein for the trip to Union Berlin in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
The midfield playmaker has a back injury and will miss the trip to the capital.
“Maxi pulled out of yesterday’s training session. He slipped while attempting a tackle and has since been suffering with a back problem; unfortunately he won’t be fit enough to play. It’s a huge blow for us. Nevertheless, we travel to Berlin with a strong team, and I’m confident that they have enough quality to win the game,” head coach Florian Kohfeldt told the club website.
The injury is not serious and the 22-year-old should be able to return when Bremen host RB Leipzig in the next round of fixtures.
Werder have a number of players unavailable, with defenders Niklas Moisander and Omer Toprak among their absentees.
Kohfeldt’s side lost their first two games of the season but overcame Augsburg 3-2 before the international break.
Union Berlin won promotion last season and have four points to show from three games so far, having picked up a shock 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in their last outing.
