Not for the first time Bamford is struggling to make an impact while out on loan, and has made just six appearances for the Clarets since joining them in the summer.
The forward also failed to shine while on loan at Crystal Palace and Norwich last season and his chances of making the grade at Chelsea look slim to say the least.
However Blues boss Antonio Conte is unhappy with the amount of game time he is getting at Turf Moor and is ready to recall him before almost immediately loaning him out to Middlesbrough.
Bamford's most successful spell on loan came at the Riverside Stadium two seasons ago, and it is hoped a similar outcome could help kick start his career.
Clarets boss Sean Dyche is happy for Bamford to leave as it will make room on the wage bill for him to strengthen his own squad during the January window.
