Defour out to show his stuff

Midfielder Steven Defour is glad he opted to stay with Burnley this summer and says there is still much more to come from him.

The 29-year-old moved to Turf Moor from Anderlecht in the summer of 2016 and made 24 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring two goals in the process.

He missed several weeks with a hamstring problem in February and March but, after a decent pre-season, is now fit and raring to go, featuring in all four of the Clarets' Premier League games this term.

However' things could have been very different as he thought about the possibility of seeking a fresh challenge during the off-season, but chose to remain with the Lancashire outfit.

"When you’re not playing for several months, you have to think of other options," he told the club's official website. "If it’s not working out, it’s just not working out.

"Maybe at some point that passed through my head but then I said in pre-season I’m going to give it all and let’s see what happens.

"And what happened, we saw a Steven Defour that is becoming really fit to play for Burnley.

"I had a good pre-season. He (boss Sean Dyche) gave me my chance to play and I did good, so now I have to continue with those kind of performances."

The Belgium international believes he is now settled into life in the north west and the fans will witness even better displays in the coming months.

"I feel fully adapted to Burnley and I hope it continues that way," he added. "They are seeing a good Steven Defour. He can still do better. I’m still growing but it’s going good for the moment."
