Dyche stands by Pope

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has refused to put any of the blame on goalkeeper Nick Pope after the defeat to Leicester City.

The youngster has made a big impression this season when replacing Tom Heaton after the England international picked up a shoulder injury in August.

Pope has since made 12 appearances in the Premier League and his first error came in the 1-0 defeat to the Foxes.

He palmed Riyad Mahrez's cross into the path of Demarai Gray last Saturday and Burnley were unable to find their way back into the game.

Despite criticism from some sections of the media, Dyche insists nobody is attaching any blame to the 25-year-old.

Dyche told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I think he’s been excellent (Pope), it wasn’t just him, the whole back four, rarely, were just a bit flat footed and staring at the moment rather than reacting.

"But I’m not going to lay any blame on them, certainly. We had enough chances to get back into the game."
