Ballack’s representative, Michael Becker, was talking about his frustrations over getting his client a move to the Red Bulls when he let slip the MLS side had agreed a deal with Ireland.
Becker claims the deal was agreed in October and will see Ireland make the transatlantic switch at the end of the season.
“Michael would love to play in New York. However, it seems that [New York general manager Erik] Soler already made massive promises to Stephen Ireland in October. This is an unbelievable incident,” Becker told Goal.com.
Having fallen out with Gerard Houllier during his time in charge Ireland has been a regular face in the Villa starting XI recently, with current boss Alex McLeish giving him the chance to resurrect his career.
However, it looks as though Ireland could part ways with Villa in the summer if Becker’s comments are true, with the Red Bulls supposedly on the look out for a creative midfielder.
