Lambert rejects player fall out

Aston Villa

Paul Lambert he dismissed claims that he has had a fall out with Darren Bent and says the pair do not need to hold talks.

The England striker was left out for last Sunday’s draw with West Brom, leading to yet more speculation that maybe all is not well behind the scenes between player and manager.

But despite claims that Bent might be on the move in January, Lambert insists everything is amicable and that the 28-year-old still remains part of his first-team plans.

The Villa boss insisted: “I don’t have a problem with Darren, I don’t need to raise it. I’m not giving him the silent treatment.

“I think that, with Gabby (Agbonlahor) scoring two at Man City, what it does is it gives you a problem. But come Sunday, I’ll do what I’ve done for years, try to pick a team that may win us the game. I don’t have any problems with anybody.”

Lambert has described Bent, who has just one goal to his name this term, as a “natural goalscorer” and feels he will need everybody in his squad at his disposal for a “long, tough season”.
