Barnsley coach urges collective spirit

Barnsley
Barnsley have signed goalkeeper Samuel Radlinger from Hannover 96.

Barnsley first-team coach Chris Stern says everyone at the club must “stick together” as they continue to adapt to life in the Championship.

The Reds are back in the second tier this season after earning promotion from League One last term under head coach Daniel Stendel and his staff, with Stern working closely alongside his fellow German at Oakwell.

Barnsley have had a difficult start, winning just one of their first six games, and are down in 21st place in the table, with only five points on the board.

Stern says everyone must be pulling in the same direction and have a positive mindset as they look to improve.

He said in the Star: “We knew when we got promoted that there might be a period of time where you don’t win, especially the coaching staff and the players as well.

“It is important to stick together and work even harder. Staying positive is also a big part. We have to focus on the good stuff, of course we have to address the negative stuff, but it is important to stay positive and keep the focus on what we did so far.”

Barnsley are back in action after the international break when they host promotion hopefuls Leeds United on Sunday when they will be looking to build on the 0-0 draw at Wigan in their last game.
