Blackburn snap up free agent Jack Rodwell
Blackburn have signed midfielder Jack Rodwell on a deal until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old had been a free agent since June after Sky Bet League One club Sunderland cancelled his contract with a year remaining as they looked to reduce their wage bill following successive relegations.
‘It feels brilliant to sign here,’ he told the club’s official website. ‘I’ve obviously had a bit of time off, but I can’t wait to get going again.
‘Blackburn is a club which has won the Premier League before and it doesn’t get bigger or better than that.
‘It’s important for me to get out there and start playing football again. There have been ups and downs over the years, but that’s in the past and now I’m just looking forward and focused on the future ahead.’
Rodwell, who won the Premier League with Manchester City in 2014, had a trial at Watford during pre-season but failed to earn a move to Vicarage Road before training at first club Everton to retain his fitness levels.
The three-cap England international becomes Tony Mowbray’s fifth signing of the summer and is in contention to face Brentford on Saturday.
