Trotters wait on double deal

Bolton Wanderers

Bolton have revealed Martin Petrov has agreed to stay and are now waiting a decision from Zat Knight and Jussi Jaaskelainen.

Wanderers are determined to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt following relegation and after releasing 12 players last week, Owen Coyle is keen to keep the rest of his squad together.

The Trotters boss is disappointed that Nigel Reo-Coker has decided to walk away but there is good news as key winger Martin Petrov has pledged his future and the club also hope to secure Jaaskelainen and Knight to new contracts.

The offers have been made and chairman Phil Gartside says they are just waiting for an answer, while he has also vowed to replace Reo-Coker with someone better.

“It was important that we kept what was going to be a Premiership squad together,” Gartside told Sky Sports.

“The only disappointment is Nigel Reo-Coker decided to invoke his get-out clause. You move on and we’ll replace him with somebody else that’s going to be as good, if not better.

“Martin Petrov’s contract is already in place and his contract runs out at the end of next season. He’s indicated that he’s more than happy to stay.

“Zat Knight and Jussi were out of contract this year and we’ve made them offers. Watch this space, we’re still waiting for replies from them.”
