O’Dowda sold on Robins ambition
Callum O’Dowda says Bristol City’s ambition to make it to the Premier League was one of the reasons he signed a new contract.
Republic of Ireland international O’Dowda has put pen to paper on a new three-year contract with Bristol City, while the terms of the deal mean there is also an option for a further year on top of that.
O’Dowda originally moved to Ashton Gate from Oxford in 2016 and he has gone on to feature over 100 times across all competitions, although he has not started a Championship match for Lee Johnson’s side since the opening day defeat to Leeds at the start of August.
However, the 24-year-old certainly appears happy with City and he admits it was an easy decision to commit his future to the club, as they share his ambitions of making it to the Premier League sooner rather than later.
“I’m really excited about the ambition of the club and the future,” O’Dowda confirmed. “I’m determined to carry on giving my all and contributing to what we are striving for, which is taking Bristol City into the Premier League.”
Johnson is also delighted to have tied O’Dowda down to a new contract, as he feels the best is still to come from the winger.
“Callum is an important member of the squad,” Johnson revealed. “He offers so much pace and trickery and he has developed his game. And Callum still has more to give.”
