Championship left-back to sign new deal

Josh Earl is set to sign a new contract with Preston North End, despite interest from Newcastle United and Leeds.

The Magpies were leading the chase for the 18-year-old defender, who made his first-team debut for the Deepdale club only last month

Scouts from a number of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Brighton and Bournemouth had reportedly been looking at the left-back.

But they all appear to have missed out as reports claim the youngster will also snub interest from rival Championship club Leeds to sign a new three-year deal in Lancashire.

Earl has started the last four league games for Alex Neil’s side, who moved up to fifth when they beat high-flying Cardiff City on Tuesday, during which time North End have conceded only once.
