Clough admits Bent interest

Burton boss Nigel Clough says he is interested in signing Darren Bent but believes the club will face an uphill battle to bring him in.

Bent has struggled for game time at Derby County this season and Clough says he has made an enquiry regarding the former England international’s availability.

However, Clough believes Bent will have other options and has played down his chances of landing the 33-year-old striker in the January transfer window.

“We speak to [manager] Gary Rowett regularly at Derby, and we know he [Bent] has been out of the picture,” said Clough, as reported by the Burton Mail.

“So he’s one of a dozen players that we’ve enquired about.

“But I would think with his pedigree that he’s got a few offers to choose from.

“Because of our position in the league, apart from geographically, he’ll probably have better clubs higher up the league to go to.”
