Cotterill to delay contract talks

Birmingham City boss Steve Cotterill insists the club will wait until January before discussing new contracts with their current stars.

Cotterill is still settling into life in the Midlands and he is happy to bide his time as he challenges his squad to step up.

Maikel Kieftenbeld, Jonathan Grounds, Stephen Gleeson, David Cotterill, Jacques Maghoma and Paul Robinson are all into their last few months of their deals at St Andrew’s, while Jason Low only signed a one-year contract in the summer.

Jack Storer and Andrew Shinnie are also out of contract in July but Cotterill insists the players will be asked to improve their consistency before they sign new deals.

He told the Birmingham Mail: “There are a few we will be looking at. It probably won’t be now. It’s not immediate. We may be looking at that in January some time.

“We have to get some balance – good game last week we give him a new contract, whereas the week before when he didn’t have a good game does that mean no contract?

“This is where we have not got to go up and down here. Let’s get it on an even keel and be focused, not be emotional about it.”
