Bacuna commits to Curacao
Huddersfield Town midfielder Juninho Bacuna has announced his intent to play international football for Curacao.
The 22-year-old midfielder has represented the Netherlands at youth level, most recently turning out for the under-21s, but he has opted to switch his allegiance.
He was born in Groningen, Netherlands, to parents of Curacaoan decent and has decided to turn his back on his country of birth.
“I want to announce that I have made a decision to come out for the Curacao national football team,” Bacuna wrote on Instagram.
Bacuna’s brother, Leandro, who plays for Cardiff, made the same decision back in 2016 and he helped Curacao to win the 2017 Caribbean Cup.
Curacao are ranked 79 in the world and are rated as the ninth-best side in Concacaf between Canada and Haiti.
