Leeds beat Boro to York striker signing

Leeds United are set to sign 16-year-old York City striker Ryan Edmondson from National League North club, according to the York Press.

The Minstermen believe the teenager is one of the brightest young players to come through the club's academy in recent years with scouts from several prominent Championship clubs having visited Bootham Crescent to watch him this season.

Edmondson has featured for York's first team and has been a regular for their under-18 side in the FA Youth Cup.

Middlesbrough were understood to be keen on snapping him up, but Leeds appear to have beaten them to it with a deal set to go through in the next seven days.

The Whites are expected to pay a five-figure sum to sign the young forward while any deal is likely to include a future sell-on clause.
