Nketiah to return next week – Bielsa

Leeds United

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed Eddie Nketiah is in line to return to first-team training after spending the last few weeks out of action.

England Under-21 international Nketiah, who is on a season-long loan at Elland Road from Arsenal, has missed the last two games for Leeds due to an abdominal injury.

It was hoped the 20-year-old would have recovered from the issue over the international break and been available for Saturday’s Championship clash away at struggling Luton Town.

However, the former Chelsea youth player, who has scored three goals from 10 league games this season, has been ruled out of the trip to Kenilworth Road by Bielsa.

It is not all bad news for the Whites, with the Argentine tactician confirming Nketiah will be linking up with first-team training next week, putting him in contention for the clash at Reading on Tuesday.

“Nketiah is not ready yet. Next week he is going to start to work with the group,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live. “After Eddie starts to train with the group, he will be ready to compete. One thing is being healthy and another being ready to compete.”

With Nketiah out injured, the attacking pressure has fallen on the shoulders of Patrick Bamford, who has netted five times from 16 Championship outings this term.

Leeds head into this weekend’s fixtures sitting third in the standings, two points adrift of table-toppers West Bromwich Albion.

The Whites are on a five-game unbeaten run in the league, picking up victories against Birmingham, Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn while drawing with Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday.
