Heckingbottom admits Hernandez importance

Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom has admitted Pablo Hernandez is a key figure for his side amid uncertainty about his future.

Hernandez got himself on the scoresheet in United’s 2-2 draw with Reading on Saturday and the Spanish veteran has continued to impress for the Whites this season.

With the 32-year-old edging towards the end of his contract at Elland Road this summer, Heckingbottom has spoken of the importance of the former Valencia star to his team, as they prepare to face Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

‘Pablo’s been one of the best performers for me when I’ve had him available, he’s been one of the best performers,’ he said.

‘My priority at the moment is working with Pablo, seeing if he can improve still further because he loves the game, his enthusiasm is brilliant, but the priority is keeping him fit between now and the end of the season so we can give him the best possible chance to help us and help himself in terms of his contract.’
