The 27-year-old former Cardiff City and Celtic midfielder still has ambitions to play at a higher level than the Allsvenskan.
Berget, a Norway international, is set to win another Swedish title with Malmo this term but he feels the time is right to move on again.
"I want to try to play at an even higher level. At the end of the season, I'll see what kind of offers appear. There may be a change of scene," Berget told NTB
"There is some interest, but it has not been the great offers you dream about. I hope there will be something exciting."
Berget has experience of Italy, England and Scotland, as well as Sweden, but knows Premier League clubs are unlikely to come calling for him.
"There is a difference between what is realistic and what you dream about. As a Norwegian, it is clear that the Premier League is very cool, but now it's more a dream than the next stop," he added.
"The Championship I think would suit my playing style well. I think that's a level I can play at."
