Preston face fight to keep defender as Toon eye bid
Preston could face a battle to keep star defender Ben Davies, following reports Newcastle United are lining up a swoop.
Steve Bruce has just taken over from Rafael Benitez at St James’ Park and is ready to make his first signing, with reports suggesting it could be the North End ace.
Bruce was in charge of Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday last season and would have seen close up the performances of Davies, who stood out in the Preston side.
The 23-year-old benefited from a loan spell with Fleetwood Town the season before, and after making 40 appearances for Preston, could be ready to make the step up to the Premier League.
Bruce wants a new central defender and it would appear that Davies is high on his list of targets and a bid could be imminent.
