Monk talks up Sheffield Wednesday’s promotion chances

Sheffield Wednesday
Birmingham manager Garry Monk bemoaned the indifferent performance of his players following their 2-2 home draw with ipswich.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk says his team can go all the way and achieve promotion this season.

The Owls are currently 11th in the Championship table and turned to Monk last weekend as they replaced Steve Bruce permanently.

Former Swansea City, Leeds United and Birmingham City coach Monk replaced caretaker manager Lee Bullen and has been working hard behind the scenes as he prepares for the club’s next game against Huddersfield Town.

Wednesday have made an inconsistent start to the new campaign but Monk is confident his team have the quality to compete for promotion.

He told talkSPORT: “It’s a long season but I believe with the quality of the squad we have, and the fan base we do have, then we have as good a chance as anyone.

“The ambition is to get the team moving forward and trying to get us up to that higher end of the league.

“When you are there and it comes towards the business end of the season, anything can happen. That’s when you can try and push for it and it can become a reality.”
