Stoke defender heads to Germany on season-long loan
Stoke defender Kevin Wimmer has left the relegated Potters to join Bundesliga club Hannover on a season-long loan deal.
New Stoke boss Gary Rowett has already set about making plans for next season as the club attempt to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt and Wimmer will not be involved.
The 25-year-old Austrian centre-back signed for the Potters from Tottenham for £18million in August 2017 but made only 19 appearances in all competitions as Stoke headed out of the top flight.
A statement from Stoke said the loan agreement ‘carries the potential for the deal to be made permanent’.
Wimmer had not featured for the Potters since their 3-0 Premier League defeat at Manchester United in January and he last played for all 90 minutes in the FA Cup defeat to Coventry in the same month.
The Welsh-born defender arrived in England when Spurs recruited him from Cologne in May 2015 but he spent most of his time with the London outfit on the bench until Stoke came calling last summer.
