Billy Jones has impressed for the Black Cats in the role this season but boss David Moyes wants more options at the back and is reportedly interested in the 24-year-old, who was a target for Sunderland in summer 2015 but he joined West Ham on loan instead.
Jenkinson has made just five appearances for the Gunners so far this season, with just one in the Premier League and has now been linked with a New Year switch to the north east as he’s apparently growing frustrated at his lack of action under Arsene Wenger at the Emirates.
Moyes has several other options at right-back with Javier Manquillo, Donald Love and Jason Denayer at his disposal, but Jenkinson’s quality and ability to also operate at centre-back if required means he’s an attractive possibility for the Black Cats.
Jenkinson has made 62 appearances for Arsenal since joining them in 2011 and is under contract there until summer 2018.
