Cooper wants to keep high-profile duo

Swansea boss Steve Cooper hopes to keep Andre Ayew and Borja Baston at the club for the rest of the season.

Ghana international Ayew and Spanish forward Borja are two of the highest earners at the Liberty Stadium and they have both spent time out on loan over recent seasons.

Speculation continues to mount that clubs on the continent could make moves for the duo before the end of the summer, although Cooper is keen for both players to remain part of his first-team squad.

“Until there’s any sort of news or bridges to cross, we’ll keep working with the players and getting ready for the next game,” Cooper said.

“Andre and Borja are the ones we get asked about but it goes for all the players really.

“There is no news at the moment and we’re working very hard with all of the players every day.”

Ayew made an impressive return to the Swans first-team during the midweek Carabao Cup triumph over Northampton, as he grabbed a brace, while Borja has started both of the Welsh club’s games in the Championship this season.

Swansea have been working hard to balance the books since suffering relegation from the Premier League in 2018, but Cooper does not know if his hands will be tied should a club come in for Ayew or Borja.

When asked if Swansea could turn down offers for either player, Cooper added: “I’m not sure. It’s all hypothetical. Until you have those decisions to make, it’s difficult to think one way or the other.”
