Cooper hints at Carroll return

Tom Carroll has returned to Swansea after his loan spell at Aston Villa was cut short due to a hip problem.

Swansea coach Steve Cooper has confirmed midfielder Tom Carroll could return for Wednesday’s meeting with Cambridge United.

The former England Under-21 international has missed the last 10 months of action due to several hip injuries, but he returned in midweek during an Under-23s meeting with Aston Villa.

Cooper’s men face the League Two outfit on home soil this week, and he admits the playmaker could feature, as long as he comes through more fitness tests.

He told the Swansea official website: “Tom is available, he has only played 45 minutes so we will have to be careful with him.

“He has had a bad injury, so we have to be careful with his inclusion in training and games, but he is getting to the stage where he is building confidence in his health where he is close to playing.

“It was brilliant to get him on the pitch last week. He did some good things, but that almost didn’t matter.”

Swansea are unbeaten since April, and Cooper’s men have won four of their first five matches in the Championship this season.

After Wednesday’s meeting with the U’s, the Welsh outfit take on first-place Leeds United at Elland Road in the Championship.
