Hazard admits to 'excellent year'

Eden Hazard says he's pleased with what's been an "excellent year" for him after he was nominated for the Ballon d'Or.

The Belgium international was included on the 30-man shortlist for the prestigious France Football award - the fourth time he's made the cut after also appearing on the list in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

While the 26-year-old is unlikely to trouble Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo or Barcelona ace Lionel Messi for the top award, he will hope to be the top Premier League-nominated player when the final run-down is revealed.

His competition in terms of English-based players comes from Spurs' in-form striker Harry Kane, Liverpool duo Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane, Chelsea team-mate N'Golo Kante, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea and Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.

Hazard, who scored 17 goals in all competitions for the Blues last season to help them lift the Premier League title, says it wasn't a personal ambition to make the shortlist as he just strived to do as well as possible for both club and country.

He said: "It is not a goal at all. Last year I tried to make the best season possible. It was an excellent year."
