The forward has not played for the club since he moved to Selhurst Park in the summer on loan from Chelsea.
His possible return will come as a boost to Allardyce as he plans to rest Christian Benteke, although the former Liverpool striker's shoulder injury "isn't as bad as first feared".
Allardyce insists he will make "wholesale changes" for the third-round tie as he focuses his attention on the Premier League. Goalkeeper Julian Speroni could return to the starting XI, while Fraizer Campbell and Lee Chung-yong are expected to start.
Sullay Kaikai could also play his part after returning on loan from Brentford, while Wilfried Zaha will miss the game after joining up with the Ivory Coast squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.
