Big Sam set for Parish talks

Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce says he will sit down with chairman Steve Parish this week to discuss transfers.

Having seen a number of fringe players in action in their goalless draw with his former club Bolton in the FA Cup club on Saturday, Allardyce now feels more confident on where he needs to strengthen this month.

The former England boss knows buying players in January will be difficult but he is already getting prepared for talks with Parish this week to establish targets.

He told reporters: "I saw a lot of players for the first time which gives me an indication, when I speak to the chairman next week, on what I think we need."

One player the club are thought to be looking at is Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing, who has been told he can leave the Riverside on loan this month.

However it's not clear if Boro would be willing to loan out the 32-year-old to another club just above the relegation zone.
