Ten Hag hopeful of Van de Beek stay

Everton are believed to have been scouting Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek with a view to making a move to sign him.

Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag says he is optimistic Donny van de Beek will remain with the club this summer.

Having decided against signing Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, Real Madrid have turned their attention to Netherlands international Van de Beek and the Spanish giants are pressing hard to get a deal done.

The 22-year-old midfielder has revealed he would be open to making the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu and reports over the past few days suggest initial discussions have taken place.

It is thought Los Blancos, who have already shelled out an initial €100million to sign Eden Hazard from Chelsea, will have to pay in the region of £50m to acquire the Dutchman’s services.

However, in a twist to the transfer saga, Ten Hag appeared to be full of optimism when asked about Van de Beek’s situation.

“[Van de Beek] only dedicates himself to playing,” he told reporters on Tuesday. “I guess and I hope that he stays with us this season. Otherwise, I will hear from [Ajax’s director of football,] Marc Overmars.”
