Van de Beek injury blow for Ajax

Donny van de Beek could snub Real Madrid.

Ajax will be without Donny van de Beek for their Champions League clash against APOEL Nicosia after he suffered a leg injury in training on Friday.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who played a huge part in Ajax’s Eredivisie title win last season and their run to the semi-finals of the Champions League, has scored twice in seven games this season.

However, coach Erik ten Hag will be without Van de Beek for a spell after he suffered a muscle injury to his upper leg.

It means he will play no part against APOEL at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam on Tuesday as Ajax look to progress to the group stages of the Champions League.

The two sides drew 0-0 in Cyprus last Tuesday with Ajax finishing the game with ten men after Noussair Mazraoui was sent off for two bookable offences.

The news on Van de Beek could also be significant for the Netherlands as he could also be absent for next month’s European Championship qualifiers against Germany and Estonia.
