Ajax star unsure over international call
Ajax full-back Sergino Dest says he is yet to decide whether he will commit to the Netherlands or the United States at international level.
The 18-year-old has broken into Erik ten Hag’s starting XI at the Johan Cruyff Arena over the opening weeks of the season, keeping Noussair Mazraoui on the bench for the Amsterdam club’s last two games.
Indeed, Dest’s performances have earned him a call up to the senior USA squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Mexico and Uruguay and he has previously represented the Stars and Stripes at youth level.
There are 7 Americans on Champions League rosters for this coming group stage:

However, the teenager was born in Holland and there have been calls for national team boss Ronald Koeman to call him into his squad before it is too late.
Dest could still switch allegiances even if he were to figure in either of the USA’s friendlies and he admits he has not yet decided where his long-term international future lies.
Speaking to Voetbal International, Dest said: I like that now I am told that I should get a chance in the Dutch national team but I have never played in a youth team of Orange.
“I have never even been called and never had a chance. I have not made a choice yet. It is coming, but I have not heard from the Netherlands yet, so … But it is nice to have two options.”
