Real to go back in for Ajax star – Report

Roma are the latest big European club to be linked with a swoop for Ajax's highly-rated midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Real Madrid are expected to go back in for Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek next summer, according to reports in the Spanish press.

The 22-year-old was strongly linked with a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu over the last transfer window but the Eredivisie champions were able to keep hold of their man.

Van de Beek was seen as an alternative if Real could not secure the services of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba but in the end, Los Blancos did not sign either player although the La Liga giants are believed to be keeping tabs on Van de Beek this term.

The player was valued in the region of £45m over the summer but if he continues his strong start to the season for both club and country, the Dutch international could end up commanding a heftier price tag next summer.

It remains to be seen of Real will go back in for United playmaker Pogba, with Van de Beek’s valuation being far more palatable than the sum expected for the French World Cup winner.

Van de Beek was a key figure in helping Ajax win the Eredivisie title last season, while also guiding the club to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
