Van der Sar open to Ajax exit
Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar has admitted he could be tempted by a move to Manchester United.
The former goalkeeper made over 250 appearances for United during a six-year spell at Old Trafford as a player.
It has been suggested United could approach the Dutchman in the near future, potentially to take on a director of football role, and Van der Sar admits he could be tempted by the chance to rejoin the Manchester outfit.
“Besides my family, the wife, kids and friends, I have two loves in my life – Ajax, who scouted me and gave me the chance to shine in the world of football, and Manchester United, who helped me to develop even at the end of my career,” he told Sports Illustrated.
“’Of course I’d be interested in a position, but at first I think I need to learn a little bit more here at Ajax and develop myself even further.”
Ajax travel to Waalwijk in the next round of Eredivisie fixtures as the Dutch giants bid to continue their strong start to the season, with the Amsterdam side the current league leaders with 23 points from nine games.
United are 12th in the Premier League with just nine points from eight games so far ahead of the visit of pacesetters Liverpool on Sunday.
